       In ancient Egypt, cats were sacred to the goddess of love, Bast (or Bastet), who was often portrayed as a woman with the head of a cat. Original image on left.
       The male cat was regarded as the incarnation of the sun god, while the female cat was the personification of the solar eye.
       24 Karat gold-plate over pewter. Gold-filled ear-wires.
