Egyptian Cowrie shell/Lapis necklace

     The Cowrie shells were adapted from a belt that was worn by women in the Middle Kingdom (2040-1640 B.C.E.), and was found in a tomb at Abydos. The shells have amuletic significance.

     24 Karat gold plate over pewter enhanced by Lapis beads.  Approximately 16" (40cm) long.
