In the final scene of Verdi's magnificent setting of Shakespeare's tragedy Othello, the protagonist uses his own dagger to take his life in anguish over the jealous rage that led him to murder his beloved, the innocent Desdemona.
The original dagger had diamonds, rubies and emeralds (image on left).
Hand enameled 24K gold-plate over pewter and brass.
Measures approximately 2.25" x 7.25".
